In addition to her airport duties, Kristie serves on the Board of Directors of the Air Carrier Association of America, the Akron AAA, the Executive Marketing Forum, the Cleveland+ Regional Marketing Alliance, and the Walsh University Business Advisory Council.
Session Description: Akron-Canton Airport is a dynamic marketing organization with an airport attached. We were early adopters in the social media revolution; becoming the first airport in the country to host a corporate blog in 2005. Since that time we’ve added to our Web 2.0 tool box. We’ve added a Flickr stream, YouTube videos, and Twitter and Facebook, both of which have high followings in Northeast Ohio and the travel industry.
Twitter and Facebook in particular, have helped us establish meaningful customer dialog…which is precious to us. We’ve never before had the privilege of really getting to know our travelers, because the airport doesn’t actually “own” the customer data- the airline does. Because of Social Media enabled communication - we are able to really get to know our fans and to listen closely to what they like and don’t like; and to delight them with tokens of our appreciation.
We will go deeper into what makes Social CAK such an important part of our marketing and communications efforts. Folks will learn how we have slowly and deliberately build our brand over the past decade and how we’ve been able to amplify our core messages and beliefs using Web 2.0 platforms. Attendees will also learn how to chat, tweet and have fun within dynamic social networks. In the end, you will learn what makes unique brands successful in their new media efforts.

Creating your authentic message: Why does the world need your company to exist? - Jeffrey Maguire
Common answers to this question "Why does the world need your company to exist?" include:
1. Because we are passionate about customer service (everyone says that) 2. Because we partner with our customers (everyone says that) 3. We deliver exceptional value (everyone says that) 4. Our People are our difference (everyone says that) 5. Our customers are the lifeblood of our business (the last time I checked, cash is the lifeblood of a business and besides, everyone says that too)
With so many opportunities to communicate with your customers, prospects and partners, it is increasingly important to find an authentic message. Apple exists for very different reasons than Microsoft (both make money and know why they exist). Starbucks exists for very different reasons than Dunkin' Donuts (both also make money for different reasons and know why they exist). Google knows why the world needs them, Yahoo wasn't sure and it shows (one of them continues to do well)
Our discussion will cover companies that clearly know why the world needs them and have managed to keep their products, services, solutions and message on point. It will provide a frame work to answer the question for yourself and start to translate that answer into a message the world will understand. Whether you communicate digitally, socially, verbally, on paper or in the air - it should probably start by answering this fundamental question.
About Jeffrey Maguire:
Jeffrey Maguire has spent the past fourteen years inspiring companies to think differently about their opportunities to grow, change, and thrive using resources that include technology, business model innovation, cultural transformation and an outcomes based approach to corporate strategy.
